The L in the 304L Round Bars indicates that the alloy is the low carbon version of the 304 grade stainless steel. The 304L round bar scomes with improved weldable properties. It can effectively resist sensitization from grain boundary precipitation. This is why they can be used in as-welded condition. However, due to the low carbon content, these round bars come with a lower tensile strength and yield strength. Thus the Stainless Steel 304L Round Bar has higher resistance to corrosion and enhanced weldability, but they are not very structurally sound. Thus, these should be used in applications that need welding but no superior strength properties.
