Stainless steel 309 Flanges are very robust and malleable. The austenitic metal used to make stainless steel 309 flanges also contains significant levels of nickel and chromium. This grade of stainless steel flanges offers significant strength at high temperatures. These flanges have good oxidation resistance, high damage tolerance, and ductility characteristics at high temperatures. Alloys 309S Flanges are extremely corrosion resistant, have remarkable durability against oxidation, and have superior thermal resistance while offering good strength at low and high temperatures because of their substantial chromium and nickel content. The carbon content is the sole important distinction between 309 and 309S. Because Alloy 309S has significantly less carbon, carbide precipitation is reduced, and weldability is increased.
